Paris in July - This weeks posts and Bastille Day Celebrations!

This is our second whole week of Paris in July, and it's going to be very exciting. This week I am hoping we'll be sharing some of the Bastille Day Celebrations, or le quatorze julliet (14th July) from around the globe. I'm not sure what I am going  to do to mark the occasion, but I'll come up with something... How about you? any plans? any memories?

This week I also have some very exciting news - I will be interviewing Patti Miller, the author of Ransacking Paris (which I'm currently reading). Patti is an Aussie Author, who has written several books, and now leads writing workshops. In her book she's very open about herself, and I'm just loving how she expresses herself and her longing to know herself.

Patti Miller is the author of Australia's best-selling life writing texts; Writing Your Life and The Memoir Book, as well a novel, Child, and three memoirs; The Last One Who Remembers, Whatever the Gods Do and the award-winning The Mind of a Thief. She has also had numerous articles and personal essays published in magazines, literary journals and newspapers.
Why interview Patti? - because I'm loving her book, because it's clear she loves Paris, and because she's an Aussie. Also because of this encounter..... I was reading the book on my 2 1/2 hour train trip to work one day, when I found myself getting very frustrated that my stop was coming up - I wanted to stay on the train all day and keep reading. When I expressed this to my colleague in the office, he asked 'What are you reading that's so good?'. I told him about the book, it's about Paris, and that it's written  by an Aussie. He guessed straight away which book and author and declared his boys went to school with her boys and he know her. After a brief chat with him, I didn't hesitate to contact Patti for an interview for Paris in July. She's agreed. So watch for that post coming up soon!

Now, for this weeks posts - don't forget to link them in here so we can all find them... and if you're new, I'll add your link to my side bar soon.

  1. Sounds like a must read. Looking forward to the interview and reading the book.
Do you really have 2,5 hours to work every day??? Five hours return? Sounds really much, but I know Australia is big and for you that might not be so much?

  2. Lisbeth, thanks for the concern - yes Australia is big, but I only travel to work two times a week - I stay in Sydney a few nights to cut down on all the travel - mind you I quite like my train trip.

  4. Working on my non-Bastille but third post about the colors of Paris and will post the link probably Tuesday. I have a boatload of catching up to do with everyone -- limited internet up here in the north -- but will indeed do my best!

  8. I'm so glad I stopped by via hearing about you at Paulita's Dreaming of France meme! It's perfect timing for me as I'm sharing a memory from le quatorze de juillet from the Bicentennial in 1989. And I'm absolutely jazzed to hear about your Aussie memoirist! That's mostly what I do —in a minor key— on my blog so I'll be following and watching for your interview. Merci! 9. I have just read 'the book of salt' by Monique Truong. Quite a different kind of book. I don't really know what to think about it. Have anyone read it?
