It's also back to class for me - while I work full time, and volunteer for about 8 hours a week, grow my own veggies, enjoy my walking and cycling - I am back to French lessons for 3 hours week for my 6th year now. So I'm currently reading the latest version of ParisMatch available in Australia (du 7 au 13 Jenvier 2010).
On reflection - there's a lot happening in my head - so Im off to spend a day in the garden, listening to my teapot fountain trickle and to taste my fresh strawberries. Je vous souhaite un bon weekend!
I would love it if you would join in the Woolf challenge! (She's surely a challenge to me, and I don't appreciate her writing half as much as most of the other participants. I keep wondering what I don't see!) There's still time to pick up The Waves, which will be discussed February 26, I believe.
ReplyDeleteI hate being in a reading slump - it is never fun! Maybe your French lessons will bring you back to reading??
ReplyDeleteI think Catherine Deveney's essays an absolute hoot - reading them may bring a little of the book reading joy back...
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your encouragements. I've been flicking through 'Free to a good home' and have read a few of Lahiri's short stories. And DB, I think I will look forward to your reviews on the Waves.
ReplyDeletehi Tamara, I was interested to read your review of How to Paint a Dead Man - it's the next book for my reading group. I don't know if I'll have time to tackle it before the meeting. I'm in a bit of a reading slump too. Finished The Children's Book by AS Byatt over summer - not for everyone but I am really interested in the Arts & Crafts movement and the politics and social history of the 1890s - WW1. But it's been hard to follow up with anything else. I love Ms Deveny and have her latest by my bed but don't feel quite up for it at the moment. I think a browse in a book store is on order to get the reading juices running again. Do you like Tim Winton at all? I though Breath was excellent.
ReplyDeleteVery impressed by your French lessons - I have started Spanish twice and keep thinking I'd like to do more - maybe now is the time! Enjoy your lessons
