Book Shopping

I have taken the day off to catch up on a few things that seem to be preventing my progress on other things. But I was distracted... Its raining at the moment, and my usually independent partner, who rides his bike 20kms to work asked for a lift. Succumbing to the request, I rewarded myself with a trip to my local favourite independent bookstore - MacLean's Bookseller. Just the thing for a wet and grey day. So now among my 'to read' list, I've added Emergency Sex and other desperate measures, the Accidental Guerrilla by Kilcullen, Blind Willow Sleeping Woman by Murrakami, and Valley of Grace by Marion Halligan. I also recently borrowed Unaccustomed Earth and The Hour I First Believed from my friends personal library. I am looking forward to my Easter and following weeks holiday in the Blue Mountains!

Currently reading an E book titled 'Three cups of Tea" about Greg Mortensen and his mission to change the world one school at a time, and a real book The Other Hand by Chris Cleave.

Gee, when I look at the books on the list, there seems to be a theme. War, Social Justice, Change, and love... April will be a challenging month for me.

  1. It looks like you hmight have another Murakami in your stack. He's such a weakness for me. I've bought everything I can find on ebay, or amazon.com used, but I haven't read them all yet. Perhaps I'm waiting for the Japanese 3 challenge.

Your stack looks great, and what a treat to visit your favorite store. I wish I could have accompanied you. We've had lots and lots of rain here, by the way, in Illinois.

  2. Hi Bellezza, Yep, another H Murakami made it to my pile, So I'm yet to read Blind Willow, and Kafka on the shores. Don't think I can wait til JRC3, but no doubt there will be others to read for then. I think I buy them for another reason also - I like the cover designs in white, red and black, and the images. Very attractive. Will post reviews when I get them read, and look forward to your thoughts also.

  4. Megan, I'm captivate by it. I am transported to the mountains and villages. I have experienced some of the nuances of the Indian people that he talks about.... it's motivating and engaging. Read it soon.

  5. It's funny you should say you like the black, white and red covers because I love them! I don't have any books with those covers, but I admire them from afar.

  6. Looking forward to what you think of Valley of Grace - I almost bought it myself the other day after hearing the author speak about it on the ABC. It's a gorgeous looking book.
